Our whole belief system is based on what we see and what we hear. Whenever there is something hyped up and in the talks, there is both correct and wrong news. This wrong news is nothing but the myths or rumours of the specific thing.
In this case, the hyped thing which we are talking about is Branding.
Before we move on, these are some of the basic facts which are there about branding, just to let you know how branding has impacted brands and the importance of it.
- 89 % of marketers think that brand awareness is the most important goal, followed by sales and lead generation.
- It only takes consumers 10 seconds to form a first impression of a brand’s logo, but it takes 5–7 impressions for consumers to recognize the logo.
- 77 % of marketers say that branding is critical to future growth.
If you ever hear someone say “Branding is the company’s logo and the name”. This by far has to be the biggest myth you can hear from a lot of people. I mean, sure they are at the forefront of branding but they hold very little value alone. They need to be paired with many other factors to actually gain value. Elements like brand strategy, brand design etc.
Another one you would get to hear a lot is, “We are just a startup, why should we spend money on branding right away? Branding is for bigger companies. Branding is no one day process, to start with. So the sooner you start, the more chances are there to impact a huge amount of people. It does not matter the size of your company. Nike, Gucci, Zara all these brands don’t sell anything different from others. But the only difference is they defined their brand from day 1, so today you can see them playing a whole other game.
“We control our brand. We know how to create an image for our brand” You may have heard many people saying this. But the truth of the fact is that no one, not even you yourself can control how people will perceive your brand. What you can do from your end is define your brand’s design and principles, bombard them into the minds of people through proper marketing and strategy so that when they look at your brand 90% of the people are thinking the way you want them to think.
“Branding is all about who spends more money on their brand to make it look fly.” Well, let me stop you right there before I start shouting at you. Branding is never about looking expensive. If that was the case, brands like DMart & Ikea would have dissolved on day 1. Branding is the whole experience that you create, how you make your customer feel when they avail a product or service from you. It’s all about the image you want to create about your brand and how you make that image reach the audience.
I hope your perspective about branding changed a little bit and if not, go up and start reading again. Keep reading until you don’t get convinced. Well, my work is done here, now it’s your turn to open your minds a bit and get a little perspective. The world is changing quickly, new brands are emerging every day. If you want to sustain, you need to get a new head start and start with a proper game plan. “These rumours ain’t gonna help you get nowhere.” Brand big, brand strong!
